The incident occurred in the town of Fairfield around 3 p.m., Monday, March 4 on Longdean Road.

According to Sgt. Michael Stahl of the Fairfield Police, the resident's employer called the police asking for a welfare check when the employee did not show up for work or answer the phone.

When officers arrived at the home they found a note indicating that the person could be found in the garage, Stahl said.

Officers then heard a gunshot come from the area of the garage and began to set up a perimeter around the house and secure the area.

The Town’s Emergency Alert System was activated notifying residents in the area of the active investigation and advising them to remain inside while police continued to secure the area.

The Fairfield Police Department Emergency Services Unit responded and safely cleared the home, locating the resident dead inside the garage, Stahl said. d

The identity of the resident is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.
